what i think

it is difficult to say if this blog was necessary or not because it was a good review for all the topics we discussed in class however even though it was an easy assignment for some reason seemed like such a hassle. i would better prefer the discussion board on blackboard. however like i said the idea was good, and very helpful. as far as the first goal i do not think that i met people, however i did learn from reading their blogs. again it was ajust a review of the subject material learned in class. i also do not feel that the blog extended into class. your second goal was met because it is often said that a student only know what he/she has learned when they can explain it to someone else, and that is exactly what we had to do in most of the blogs. without a doubt you achieved this goal by making us think about what we did in class. your blog was very interesting however i nobody put as much effort into it as urself, and i do not plan on using this blog beyond this class [partially due to all the networking sites out there especially facebook and myspace. again as far as improvemnt goes i feel that the discussion board is a little easier to use because we can all post the same ideas and the class is organized all on one sheet, where it is easier to read all the replys to one posting and it is better organized i say try that rather then the blogger next class.

workweek of a manager

I woke up monday morning and decided
It was time to get my workers united
We have stuff to get done
Before we can move on
We have projects to do
And stuff to get through
We have deadlines to beat
And new clients to meet
But by the end of the night we had failed
All my ideas have sailed
Today was such an ass kicker
So I went home and turned to my liquor
but that didn’t remove the past
on my salary the good stuff don’t last
so I hit the sack, and slept like a baby on my back

I woke up tuesday morning and decided
It was time to get my workers united
We have so many things to get through
And so many projects yet to do
I wondered how we will get through all of this
So to clear my mind I took a good piss
In the bathroom I found a white baggie
Though the contents were kind of saggy
I took the bag home and gave it a hit
Damn that was some good shit
Tonight I felt no pain
Im so glad I found that cocaine

I woke up Wednesday morning and decided
It was time to get my workers united
I called everyone into my room
They looked like they entered their doom
As I started to speak
They all started to freak
On my ideas we just couldn’t agree
None of them listened to me
I couldn’t take the stress
I had landed myself into such a deep mess
Of help I was in terrible need
Luckily I found my weed
Soon things seemed alright
I figured id call it a night.

I woke up Thursday morning and decided
It was time to get my workers united
I came in early morning
And gave all the workers a warning
I told them what I want to get done
And told them to stop having so much fun
They looked at me like I was crazy
I yelled at them for being so lazy
Nothing here every gets finished
My job will soon be diminished
My employees they just will not work
I over-heard them even call me a jerk
I decided to punish a few
And I knew just what to do
I went to the closet and got them all brooms
On the way back I picked up a pack of shrooms
I made them stay late and sweep
However I went to my office to sleep
When I got home I opened my pack
I felt like I just smoked some crack
I can’t explain in my sleep what I saw
My dreams they left me in awe

However I woke up Friday morning and I had it figured out
My plan was perfect without a doubt
I decided that I would rebel
My employees all began to yell
I lowered each and every wage
Everyone went into a rage
They knew what they all had to do
This place will no longer be a zoo
I told them they had until four
They realized I won the war
I laughed in their face
And gave them, their space
They organized little mobs
And went to do all their jobs
At a quarter till three
They entered with a plea
The work was all done
I realized I had won
The job they completed was splendid
Too bad the work week just ended
This work week had tickled my brain
But come Monday we will do it all again
And now that this poem is doneWe realize being manager is not always so fun

There goes a hard earned dolla!

McDonald’s, McDonald’s, McDonald’s I hate it, however I’m not going to lie I ate it. The burger was good and the pickles were great however the fries I couldn’t not get. The workers were all slightly confused and the salt came standard on the fries. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy but it seemed like they were just lazy.
Unfortunately I am in school during the day or at work, so I cannot get to a McDonald’s, but today on my way to work at about 10pm I walked into a McDonald’s near my house, it was not packed but had about 15-20 people. As I waited in line I was getting a little anxious and finally I came to the counter. There were about 4 people behind the register looking at me, and a gentleman in his late 40’s asked me for my order. I said “I would like a hamburger with 4 pickles and a small fries with no salt”. He looked at me all confused and at first asked if I wanted a hamburger or a cheeseburger, so I replied hamburger with 4 pickles. The gentleman looked at me and said so “one burger with pickles and a small fries”, I corrected him with salt-less fries and 4 pickles, he told me that he could not make fries without salt, so I told him to delete them off the order. Again the confused clerk, review my order incorrectly, checking that I wanted 4 hamburger’s; I laughed and reminded him that it was only one burger and 4 pickles. The young lady at the register next to mine seemed intrigued by my order and stood watching my clerk try to get it right. Eventually he repeated my order correctly, “1 hamburger with 4 pickles”. Next he went to the chef in the back and told him to put 4 pickles on the burger; he did, and out came my burger as perfect as can be.
The whole staff seemed like a group of brain washed zombies, by asking for something unusual they were all confused and had no idea how to handle the situation. My order completely threw them off their routine of just pushing a button for orders. It seemed that there was no way to electronically submit a request for 4 pickles so my clerk had to actually walk over and talk to the chef. I would have to say that this is quite an unusual order, but was handled fairly well after he comprehended what exactly I wanted. The biggest issue for the clerk seemed to be actually understanding what it was I wanted. I could not get my fries, however the burger had exactly 4 pickles on it. As I checked my receipt I noticed what the clerk had done. I was charged an extra $.15 for extra pickles, but the exact number was not on the receipt.
If I were a McDonald’s consultant the only change that I would have to make on the order screen is possibly adding a comment box. With a small comment box on the bottom, the clerk could automatically request special orders, such as 4 pickles and not have to walk all the way to the back. However this is a rare occurrence at a fast food chain considering most people just order their food via a number. An investment into special order comment boxes would require a keyboard or a writing utensil, and would be quite costly to upgrade at thousands of restaurants. I think that the best way to handle this situation was the way it was handled, directly through the chef. I would have to say leave it as is, if a restaurant serves 100 meals a day and 2 of them are special order then just walk over to the chef. Since this is not a usual process an extra 30seconds did nobody any harm. I’m also pretty sure that nobody other then I has ever requested a specific number of pickles. For those people with specialty orders, it is a simple request, because a clerk can easily add ingredients with the push of the extra button, and the ingredient button.
Ultimately the situation was handled well. I got my 4 pickles and the fries were just a ridiculous request. People who are watching their calories or want a healthier French fry should not be going to McDonald’s. The fries are prepared in batches and if one batch is not salted then the remainder of the fries after my order would have to go to waste. This would not be a smart managerial or financial move. As far as the confusion, the employees were slightly baffled but adapted quite rapidly; my order barely took longer then usual. Again I would not change anything because this is a rare occurrence, and the employees deserve a hand, or in this case a burger.

Enough with the vision already

Vision... we have herd the word 12,000 times in the hlf hour video alone. i agree however in the importance of setting goals for ones self. i strongly believe that having goals gives us the perseverence to go on with our lives through all the things we hate. for me i have several goals, nothing to grand, but worth stiving for. my first goal is to make lots of money, typical of mopst people in college and those reading my blog, i want to have a good job in finance and learn the ins and outs of the business world. i want to have a diverse portfolio that brings in a 5-10% annual profit. my next goal is to have a wide array of assets and investments, aside from fancy shmancy cars whitch will only depreciate over time, i want a a few homes, maybe a condo, and sum summer retreats, basically ownership of land. my third goal is to have a family, a wife without a doubt preferably mute.- just kidding, that was unrealistic, but a wife and maybe 2, 3 kids. i want to be able to give my kids certain things that i never had, and hopefully raise them tio become successful, the goal of any parent. fourth i want to repay my parents for all their hard work in raising me and giving me the ability to live in the US, have a simple life and a great opportunnity to succeed. they gave up alot in their lives so that my sisiter and i could have a better life and i think that they deserve to be repayed. these goal though i may never achieve them all or to the full extent are the reason that i wake up in the morining. i honestly hate school, aside from this class-lol- but i have no choice but to come here because it is the action towards my vision. i cannot just sit at home and say i want to be succesful. to succeed i have to get up go to school study and try to get a good job. fortunately i dont go to school as an action with no reasononig or vision behind it, but i do try to make my visions happen. visions give us a reason to strive and are very imptortant in life. to make my dreams come true i cannot realy say anthing but to invest an education and time. i work hard though sometimes i fail, i guess we will just have to wait and see what the future holds.

Majority Rules/ 100% drools

this was a great class, and i think that we experienced a successful hour of group collabaration, i must say that although i agree with the 100% rule, majority should prevail, especially in a class of 85, and a situation where 80 will benefit. if we are given extra points to improve our grades we should take it and continue to work hard and improve. the whole process indeed was frustrating, and naturally ppl want wat benefits themselves best, however in this situation nobody suffers. we began by two students taking charge as mediators between the class and the prof. we proceeded to listening to everyone blurt out ideas in what was a compromise decision making attemp. everyone was equal, yes , even the self proclaimed leaders, and we all hared our thoughts until we came to one decision. the pressure was the lack of time, which seemed so little due to the large number of students who chose to voice theri oppinions. although towards the end, we managaed to come to a majority agreement, we did not have 100%, and could not have the final decision, these students though disagreed took the position of accomodaters, and agreed to vote with the majority, what these students did was realize how the extra points weremore important to their classmates over their oppinions and ethics towards a decision that wouldonly benefit them. i also feel that we had SORT OF COLLABRATION EXCEPT WE WERE MISSING THE multiple group insight, however the class as a whole is a group bargaining and negotiating. in conclusion it semes that within making one group decision requires variousways of handling conflict.

charlie the egg

the class activity was great. caught of guard my group and i managed to pull together and invent the ultimate eggdrop. i actually think that my group used all the steps in the planning process to keep the egg in one piece. i think that my team rushed things a little too much because we began to mix up ideas, and as we ran out of time were not really close to the design we had originally wanted. i think a little more time would help us become more effective, but our did not break so i would say we did great.
First we began by drawing an aray of different models and discussing which would work best. we tried spider models, pyramid beds, and boxing gym designes but in the end found a loop hole in the instructions. last minute as we were building a spider type model we had left over tape and began jokin how it we should use the tail to drop it from a lower point,. we laughed and realized that we were never told otherwise, sop we wrapped the stras around the egg for cushioning and used the tape as a tail to lower the egg.
i feel that the group worked greaty together, we all had different idea but managed to agree on a sngle answer. we planned the use of materials together, and all helped tape the egg. the weakenesses were alo our strenghths as we had so many idea but little time.
although it appeared that our egg was not 50% uncovered we also overcame that as all the members of the group came forth and hlped uncover the egg. we worked great as a group and thus achieved the goal we set out to do, however there is a negative to the 5 points, we didnt have om;lettes for dinner.....

A Major Issue

my friend started a company this winter break and decided to exclude me, because for some reason he felt my ideas were not worthy enough. fortunetly for me lol i honestly and lets keep this between us felt that his idea was stupid, so i was less then upset. i decided to look into my own ideas and came up with one inparticular which i will not mention until the paperwork is completed, because i have an excellent location, and the demand is growing. i realize ofcourse that any idea has many problems and take a lot of time to actually start up. therfore i decided to partner up with the friend whose business had failed like i figured it would and a second friend for financial backing and business knowledge.
once we though over the idea realized that the profits will not make us rich, however will provide us with an investment which will definetly prove profitable in the future. i began to look into the cost of supplies and realized that they were cheaper then i had planned, and i actually found a wholesaler willing to pricematch any cheaper supplies with their 110% price match guarantee.
Now i am down to the most important decision, although we have the area mapped out for competition, we cannot find a property with the appropriote area for an affordable price. we are left to think that renting though safer with less to pay and less to lose is just throwing away money, we would rather lease or mortgage a property but that requires funds far larger then originally anticipated. we will not be able to get the financial backing from any bank since we are only college students with undeveloped credit. we did consider getting an investor but then he will collect our profits with no labor, a fourth partner however is already too much managment. we seem to be procrasrtinating, however i fear the day that competion realizes the potential of the area, my hard work will all be forfited. WHAT TO DO?????????????????

pizza

i personally loved todays class, aside from the group who decided it was most cost efficient to make dough in the backyard from wheat and a windmill, i thought all the ideas were great and thats the beauty about managment. i think that a similiar business can be run and operated succesfully various ways, hence many manager always their own touch. i felt that th ecersizze was a great real world situation, and the hends on thinking and actual planning was a better lesson then just reading from a text book

My name is Sam, im 6'2", originally from Belarus, however i have been living in America since 1989. Grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Sataten island about 7 years ago, which is where i currently reside. All through out HS i have wanted to earn a degree in business and therefore worked my ass off to end up here @ BARUCH, one of the top colleges in the business field. Personally i love it here however sometimes i wonder if im missing out on the dorm experience. my goal for Baruch is to graduate in 3 years with a BBA in Finance, and i will continue to strive for that, i hope to get a job for a fortune 500 company and then begin to live life to the fullest.

Superbowl XLII

ok so the first quarter has just ended slightly disapointing because the Patriots just got a TD and the way they are playing looks like it wont be their last, however the Giants who are new to the Bowl were quite close and played some amazing offense. so let me continue to watch and i will keep posting. score NE-7, NY-3
